二戰之后,比較文學研究的重鎮從法國移至美國。在第二次國際比較文學大會上,韋勒克宣讀了影響深遠的《比較文學的危機》,在文中韋勒克將比較文學的危機歸結于其缺乏明確的研究內容與具體的研究方法。他開出的處方(將“文學性”作為對象,采用“描述、刻畫、闡釋”等方式)實質上是一般文學研究的研究內容和研究方法,加之韋勒克的闡述比較籠統,為比較文學今后的發展埋下了新一重危機。自此之后,“危機話語”伴隨著學科發展不絕于耳。論文第一章節重訪以“教堂山會議”為標志的比較文學“美國時刻”的降臨。通過細讀韋勒克、雷馬克的論文,結合后面數十年的比較文學年鑒、ACLA報告,揭示進入“美國時刻”的比較文學孕育的新危機,并指出:“文學性”的困境、與對“可比性”的爭議是這一危機的兩個重要標志。雖然“可比性”概念直到1995年才由卡勒明確提出,但美國學派重拾“比較”之法以及對其進行的學理反思早在60年代就有了實踐。這個兩個看似獨立的問題域,實則共同決定了比較文學的本體意義。具有明確內涵、存在于不同層面上的“可比性”(諸如修辭、主題、類型、歷史的模式)決定了文學性的多重面向;而文學性通過對文學本質的追問,使“可比性”向詩學層面延...
