    前言：美國醫療傳教士嘉約翰是近代西醫傳入中國過程中的關鍵人物之一。他創辦博濟醫院 ,為近代西醫在中國歷史最悠久、影響最深遠的醫院之一 ;開展醫學教育 ,所建博濟醫院附屬醫學校 ,是中國第一所專業性的西醫醫學學校 ;編輯醫學書籍和期刊 ,對當時的中國醫學界系統了解西方醫學起了很大作用。嘉約翰在中國近半個世紀 ,為西醫在中國的發展作出了貢獻。
    Being a key figure in the process of introduction of western medicine into China in modern age, John Kerr, an American medical missionary, established the Boji Hospital, one of the most influential hospitals with the longest history in modern China.
